Rock Cycle

Study of rocks is called petrology and the natural cycle in which one type of rock changes to another type under certain conditions in a cyclic manner is called Rock cycle.
  1. When molten magma cools, it solidifies to become igneous rock.
  2. These rocks are broken down into smaller particles which are transported and deposited to form sedimentary rocks.
  3. When the igneous and sedimentary rocks are subjected to heat and pressure they change into metamorphic rocks.
  4. The metamorphic rocks which are still under great heat and pressure melt down to form molten magma.
  5. This molten magma again can cool down and solidify into igneous rocks.
